The update

On 17 February 2026, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India would add 20,000 GPUs to its existing 38,000 under the IndiaAI Mission, according to a government release. The summit's New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact was reported as endorsed by 92 countries and international organisations.

The IndiaAI Mission was approved in March 2024 with an outlay of ₹10,372 crore.

Why it matters

Subsidised compute lowers the cost for Indian startups and researchers to fine-tune and evaluate models, particularly for Indian languages and domains.
